Sushiksha intervention centre had the wonderful opportunity to meet and interact with the very enthusiastic and vibrant team of special educators at Muktangan, Lower Parel.
Dr.Denissia (P.T.) and Dr.Jyoti Kayarat conducted an interactive session with the team and focused on the topic of “sensory integration in neuro-diverse children”.
We emphasized on the following aspects:
1) Introduction to the 8 senses
2) Hyper and hyposensitivity in the various sensory systems in children
3) Regulation and how to maintain Optimal arousal levels
4) Sensory diet in school and home environments to allow for better learning.
The talk helped the special educators understand how to implement and use sensory strategies in the schooling environment and how to advocate a sensory diet to the parents.
We also learnt immensely from the school in terms of how they have used visual schedules and a home corner to build on the child’s ability to co-regulate in the schooling environment.
